Karma Samyama

    [ Karma Samyama ]

Advanced spiritual program at Isha Yoga Center, in which layers of karma are brought to the surface to dissolve them.

A confluence of the states of dharana, dhyana and samadhi. Here, it refers to the eight-day meditation program conducted by Sadhguru, where one is transported into explosive states of meditativeness. This program is an opportunity to shed lifetimes of karma and experience deep states of meditativeness and samadhi.

“if all you’re thinking of is a good life – good life means, peaceful, joyful, loving life – then Inner Engineering and Bhava Spandana is good enough for you. But you want to know the very source of life, if such a longing has come, you have to make a little more serious effort. Samyama is just that. ”

    – Sadhguru

Samyama – It is a state where your awareness has reached a point – where you clearly know – when I say “Know”, knowing is always thought in terms of “Oh! I – Know”. It is not that knowing, you are fully aware that you are not the body, you are not the mind, you are not the world. Your body is separate, the mind is separate – these are the three things that you are always getting identified with. You get identified with the body, the mind, the surroundings around you – this is the trap.

If you are in Samyama, the body will be there, mind will be there, world will be there but you are not part of all these three things. If you are free from all these three things, there can be no suffering. If you are in the body, body can suffer, if you are in the mind, mind can suffer, if you are in the world, world can make you suffer. If you are not in any of these three things, you are outside of these three things, this is your Mukthi – That is the aim of Samyama. It is the height of awareness, where your witnessing has separated everything. If your witness is sharp enough – it will slice off the body, it will slice off the mind, it will slice off the world – it will leave you free from all these things. In what way it is connected to Samadhi? It is not connected to Samadhi. It is a way of bypassing all Samadhis.

“Samyama is a state where you become fully aware that you are not the body, you are not the mind, you are not the world around.”

    – Sadhguru

    Introduction

▵ Samyama is an intensive residential program conducted by Sadhguru. Participants spend 8 days in complete silence with long hours of meditation. It provides the possibility for individuals to free themselves from the bonds of karma and purify the system, opening them up to subtler realms of experience. The program presents the potential for participants to reach heightened levels of consciousness and experience explosive states of meditativeness in the presence of Sadhguru.

    Spiritual Significance

Samyama is a certain kind of process, where we are putting you on fast forward, but in an extremely safe atmosphere. If you try to do it by yourself without a protective atmosphere, it could be dangerous. People can blow their brains off, if it doesn’t happen in a protected atmosphere. The reason why we’re fixing such stringent filters is because we want proper discipline and focus towards what’s being done. Otherwise, even going by bus, if you hold on to the tamarind tree, either the bus has to stop or you have to leave your arm there and go. One of these things has to happen. Otherwise you shouldn’t stick your hand out. You simply watch the world go by. If you’re walking it’s not like that, but it takes a long time. Even to get to Coimbatore it may take a very long time.

Samyama is that dimension, where what is opaque we want to make it transparent. If that is not possible at least to make it translucent, so that even if it doesn’t let you pass, at least you can clearly see there’s another dimension to life. Once you have seen, you cannot fool yourself. You know you have to go there.
